Event Purpose:
It is designed to bring awareness to leaders, educators, parents and the overall adult community regarding the immediate needs and concerns of teenagers. This is accomplished by providing unrestricted opportunities for young adults to express their deepest feelings relating to worldwide and surrounding issues. Together, we can bridge the gap between generations and break the various barriers of communication.
Session One: “What do Teens Really Want?”
This session focuses on identifying the needs and desires of teenagers as it relates to teen events, programs, the expectation of a mentor, and activities they feel will assist at keeping them out of trouble while discovering their own identities. It is important that this session also address the topics and issues that teens would like to discuss without limitations, sugarcoated responses from adults, and without the fear of being reprimanded for their feelings and methods of expression. Toward the end of the session their will be a Teen Mock Election in which they select the type of events and activities that they want in their community.
Session One: “Parent to Parent”
The Parent to Parent session is designed to assist parents toward developing a strong future for their children in terms of academics, college preparation, behavior issues, discipline area tips, and more. This will allow them to be more aware of the opportunities available for teens and the understanding of the language, mentality, and communication techniques of the younger generation.
Session Two: “Man to Man/Woman to Woman”
This session separates the participants into female and male groups to discuss matters of the sexes. It addresses the ideological perception of the role of women and men or men versus women in today’s society. This can incorporate topics of abuse, STDs, hygiene, etiquette, appearance, dating, etc. In a diverse panel setting the objective is to provide an opportunity for teens to ask upfront questions with realistic responses with respect to various cultures, beliefs, and individuality.
